PH TROOPS PUSH FORWARD AGAINST MARAWI MAUTE TERRORISTS

Brave Philippine soldiers push forward under the cover of howitzer and mortar fire on Wednesday to move forward in areas heavily controlled by the remaining Maute terrorist and the Abussayaf group. According to the military, less than 20 hectares of the city with around 200 buildings, were yet to be cleared of the terrorists.

“We have expected to experience more firefights as we try to regain more ground,”  according toCol. Romeo Brawner, the Joint Task Force Marawi deputy commander.

The fighting started last May 23, s in the Muslim-majority city  and about  151 soldiers and policemen, as well as 47 civilians have been killed. The number includes “friendly fire” incidents.
The terrorist Maute group, the Abu Sayyaf faction headed by Isnilon Hapilon and their allies have lost 680 fighters, according to the military. Brawner said, the troops advance is slowed down due to the presence of the between 40 and 45 hostages held by the Maute. Read more>>
